About the book
donde aprendimos a mirarnos traces the relationship between Margarita and her daughter Vicky within a Triqui community from Oaxaca that has been settled in the agricultural region of Sonora, in northern Mexico, since the 1950s.

Through two generations—Margarita, who was born in Oaxaca, and Vicky, who was born in Sonora—the book explores migration, memory, identity, and belonging, and the ways a sense of home is carried and transformed across generations.

Built as an intimate photographic narrative, the book reflects on how identity takes root in a territory shaped by migration, and how belonging can shift from one generation to the next.
