donde aprendimos a mirarnos explores migration, identity, and belonging through the relationship between Margarita and her daughter Vicky, two generations of a Triqui family living in the agricultural region of Sonora.
The project takes place within a Triqui community whose migration from Oaxaca to Sonora began in the 1950s. Margarita was born in Oaxaca and later migrated north, while Vicky was born in Sonora. Their experiences reveal different ways of inhabiting the same territory and of negotiating what it means to belong to a place.
Through an intimate photographic approach, the project looks at the ways memory, family, and territory shape identity across generations, and how a place that begins as a destination of migration can gradually become home.
